A map of the siege by Charles Emanuel III of Savoy (1701-73) of Milan in the winter of 1733-4 leading to the capitulation of the Austrian garrison, together with small plans of surrounding fortified towns. War of the Polish Succession (1733-8). Oriented with north to top.

Charles Emmanuel supported the French who, in turn, were promoting Stanislas Leszczynski, the father-in-law of Louis XV, as the rightful claimant to the Polish throne. The other claimant was Augustus III of Saxony, who was supported by Austria and Russia.
