c.1745

Pencil, pen and ink on paper; laid down on linen | Scale: not stated. 1:32,400 approx. | RCIN 729127

A sketch map of the encampment of the Allied army, under the command of the Duke of Cumberland, at Grammont on 1 July 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north-north-east to top.

This shows several attempts to position the river, and corrections are made to the river position near Lessines and just below Grammont; the map is covered with 31 mm copying squares which are not very carefully drawn.

The map extends from Schendelbeck (Schendelbeke 50°47'55'N 03°53'55'E) in the north to Lessines in the south, and from Gouy (Ghoy 50°43'42'N 03°48'35'E) in the west to Onckerzele (Onkerzele 50°46'55'N 03°54'41'E) in the east.
