A large-scale plan showing the detail of the battery positions in the fortified line at St Peter's Hill. The positions for the camps of the Austrian (Au:), Hessian (Hess:), English (En:) and Hanoverian (Han:) troops appear to have been surveyed and plotted. The numbers on the map are not explained and may relate to guards. The plan extends to the covered way on the east side of Fort St Peter (50°50'09"N 05°41'05"E) in the north, and to Lichtenberg Castle (50°49'21"N 05°41'39"E) in the south. The lines of a previous, undated, field fortification are shown to the west. The Line and encampment shown here on the west bank of the Meuse were part of the Allied army encampments which were made to the south and east of Maastricht after the Battle of Lafelt (2 July 1747), and while the siege of Bergen op Zoom (14 July-18 September 1747) was being conducted. The geographical relationship between the camp at St Peter's Hill and the rest of the army is shown on RCIN 730142. Condition: four fold lines; brown staining to both sides.
