A map of the encampment of the royalist army of George II, under the command of William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721-65) at Nairn on 14 April 1746. Jacobite Rebellion (1745-6). Oriented with west to top.

Twelve regiments are shown camped to the west of Nairn, three to the north, with the artillery parked to the south of the town. A large house on the west side of the town is indicated as the Duke's headquarters; the Duke is known to have made the Provost's house his HQ (Whitworth Porter 1992, p. 83).

Condition: one fold line; brown staining and foxing to both sides, especially verso. Verso: induced discolouration; top left: water-stained patch and fragments from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
