    A manuscript map of Limerick, held by Irish Confederate Catholics and English Royalists, commanded by Hugh Dubh O'Neill, 5th Earl of Tyrone (1611-1660) and besieged from 3 June to 29 October 1651 by the English Parliamentary New Model Army commanded by Henry Ireton (1611-26 November 1651) resulting in the surrender of the city. Irish Confederate Wars (1641-1653). Oriented with east-north-east to top (compass rose).

    Wiggins (p.72) refers to a manuscript map by William Webb illustrating the siege of Limerick in 1651 and showing examples of the detached forts or 'sconces' typical of the period, square in form with a bastion at each corner, giving a characteristic star-shaped plan. Wiggins is referring to another manuscript example of RCIN 723094.a which is in Worcester College, Oxford, MS YC 20, ccvi. A digital image of the Worcester College copy can be seen at Jim Kemmy Municipal Museum, Limerick (accessed 19/01/2016).
